I swear to you that a good Ring Belt is one of the most underrated tools any fair goer or cosplayers could have. Now here’s the thing with most cosplay belts generally that you find out quickly if you’ve ever bought one from amazon. Most of them suck.

Really,

REALLY Badly.

For some of them, It’s a miracle if they get you through a whole season. That’s where a normal good belt comes in. So why even consider a ring belt to begin with? Well, the best thing, outside of looking amazing on nearly every costume with a renaissance fair aesthetic, they are the absolute God-Teir, S-Rank (You name it) belt for carrying your accessories on the go. I truly believe the only reason that people don’t use it more is because they don’t know about it yet.

Watch this.

Accessory Storage

Drinks to go

You don’t have to go to Ren Fair to understand what it feels like to be holding a to go cup for too long. That feeling of scanning for the nearest trash, awaiting the opportunity to be freed from the torment of cup holding. Of course, we immediately pull out the torment that is our phones anyways (unless we’re at fair of course.)

Well with Ring Belts you don’t have to do that. Bring your cup and [your mug holder], then [clip it onto] your ring belt for every drink you get.

The moment you need it, you pull it off.

The moment your done, right back on.

No more scanning for trash again! But you might be scanning the ground for your trinkets if you don’t have a ring belt.

Trinkets for the Trade

Absolutely atrocious segways aside, If you give out any kind of trinkets you probably know the pain of having to break character to dig through your bag. Watching in horror as the other person is waiting expectantly in front of you for what is, in their mind at least, a mystery trinket. Okay… that might be a bit of exaggeration. But you might actually have even had your trinkets bag tip over or rip (if you used a ziploc bag) and have everything dump onto the floor. Oh, what a world. What a world.

Yeah, never had that happen… Anyways, you can put it into whatever secure bag you like and hang it right onto you ring belt so you always know where it is. No more digging around needed.

Personal Bags

Finding a bag for renaissance fair (or Comic Con and Cosplay generally) usually has to meet 2 criteria.

  1. It is light and can carry your personal things. This includes storage for your wallet, your phone and any other must haves you need to bring to fair.

  2. IT LOOKS FUCKING AWESOME.

Well finding a bag that is both of those things is often difficult unless you make it yourself. Well if a bag is slightly to small but looks great that's a problem unless you be trying to carry multiple bags either on your should or on a standard belt. In which case you run into the last major problem that ring belts fix for cosplay accessory storage.

Weapons

For those times when peace was never an option, fear not. For weapons can be holstered on ring belts too. Realistically I’d watch the weight and size of what you put on there. Ring belts work great for smaller weapons like hand axes, hatchets and daggers. They aren’t so great for larger weapons like swords and katanas. Although I will admit, on one, maybe even two occasions I have forgotten my holster and had to resort to putting my mock [longsword] through one of the rings. That is to say, I don’t recommend it but it can be done. But… Definitely NO warhammers! Leave them in the car if you forget your [bauldric]. Of course if you follow our [car storage guide], you’ll be able to fit your warhammer in the car with no problem.

“Okay, that’s cool and all, but couldn’t I just use a normal belt?”

I hear you ask. The answer is sure, you could do everything I mentioned above on a normal belt. Then again, I a potential follow-up being, “If so, then how could it possibly be the most underrated tool? Isn’t this another case of reinventing the wheel?”

Well I’m glad you didn’t ask, not only because you would be crazy talking to your screen with no call, but also because there benefits you don’t get from a standard belt that make ring belts amazing for Ren Fair. These are what really set Ring Belts apart.

No More Sliding Around

Belt bags are notorious for sliding around. Specifically bag’s meant for cosplay. On work pants, like jeans or cargo pants, loops are built into the pants so bags stay steady. On cosplay bags, item’s slide around since they on top of other clothes versus secured with pant loops. It may be controversial to say but Cargo pants don’t exactly scream, “Ren Fair.” So unless your an adopted mario brother, you’re probably going to want a way to ensure your items stay in place. Clipping your items onto the O-Rings on Ring Belts mean that they are in a fixed position.

You Can Go Pee, No More Dumping Everything on The Porta Potty Floor First!

Finally, the biggest benefit to ring belts is that thanks to the ring belt’s modular design, you can take Ring Belts off without having everything dump on try the ground as it would if you had a normal belt. If you try to hold a full standard belt while using the bathroom, you know, it is a nightmare. If you haven’t

  1. good for you

  2. learn from us.

Don’t learn the hard way with all of your stuff on a porta potty.

A Confession

Now with all that out of the way I have a confession to make. I almost didn’t want to put this here because then everything will read as a sales pitch. I genuinely do believe everything here, I swore in the beginning, remember? Still do ;)

Well we’re the ones that make O-Ring Leather Ring Belts. The one’s you find on amazon are terrible! Terrible! Terrible!

At our Nightflare Creation’s store we use premium quality real Vegetable tanned leather that will last you for years. And, when it finally does start to age, it will form a beautiful patina and will still last for many years after that.

Not only will they match the renaissance fair aesthetic supremely well, they can actively allow you to add more to your costume. Below is a few ideas of ways to incorporate the ring belts into your existing costumes.
